Playing a game like the true thing is every gamer’s game, especially if it’s a first-person shooter (FPS) game. Not only will it feel like you’re inside the game, but you feel every hit and be able to walk, jump or crouch—literally. Now you can experience this, thanks to The Gadget Show.
The Gadget Show in Channel 5 has created a team of design experts so they can transform the Birmingham studio into an FPS stimulator for the pre-release copy of Battlefield 3 game. The FPS simulator costs £500,000 ($650,000) and is armed with a four by nine meter video dome that will surround the player as he plays the game like he’s inside Battlefield 3.
Here, the player stands on an omni directional treadmill that will let the player walks around the game. Then, there’s a sensor in your gun and ten infra-red motion tracking cameras that will enable the picture to follow your every move. Another addition to this FPS simulator is Kinect hack that will control your jumping and crouching. And lastly, there are 12 paintball markers—meaning, you get to feel when you’re shot.
The real life FPS simulator for Battlefield 3 will be shown in The Gadget Show on Channel 5 at UK on October 24 at 8:00pm. To see the behind the scene footage, check out the video below.
