Orchids-Faced Monkeys

9 Pics

According to the Chinese lunar calendar, on February 8, 2016 we will officially begin the year of the monkey. And to celebrate, the Aquamarine Fukushima in Japan has opened an exhibit centered around the extremely rare Monkey Orchid.

Known by the scientific name Dracula simia, these strange flowers bear a striking resemblance to a monkey and can only be found in Ecuador and Columbia. Not only does the inner part of the bloom resemble a monkey's face, some flowers even grow fur, take on a brown color, and possess a tail-like structure.
